Burnout

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It reduces productivity and saps your energy, leaving you feeling increasingly helpless, hopeless, cynical, and resentful.

In order to regain full autonomy, connexion to self and others, it is essential to work on both, physical and emotionnal aspects of the person's functionning.

​

A temporary leave of absence (partial or full time) is often necessary, during which time, therapeutic help will address your symptoms and help you recover,  include stress management specific skills, help you identify protective factors with long term effect and finally, concretely plan out your return to work (in the current position or a different job).

​

A collaborative relationship between the therapist, medical doctor and employer will insure a secure and stable return to work without stigma.

Maternal Burnout

Burnout  was originally and still commonly referred to in the professional context. But it concerns students as well as new parents, particularly mothers.

​

In cases of maternal Burnout, a leave of absence is out of the question - obviously. 

Do note that, maternal burnout 

  • affects mothers who go back to work after having a childas well as stay at home moms,

  • is often minimized and carried on longer than in other circumstances,

  • is different from post partum depression or Baby blues

​

The syndrome is a result of the physiological, emotional and psychological exhaustion that occurs from the accumulation of repetitive moderate-intensity stress. The most frequent symptoms of maternal burnout syndrome are sleep disorders, weakness, chronic fatigue, digestive disorders, head and back pain.

Therapy in this case, is all the more important in view of full recovery and avoiding severe physical and mental health consequences.
