What is Lifespan Integration™ ?

>Who is it for?

>What to expect?

Lifespan Integration   (LI) is a gentle, integrative and holistic therapeutic method, developped in 2003 by Peggy Pace. It is based on research in affective neuroscience and the neurobiology of child development, and relies on the innate ability of the body-mind to heal itself.

Any experience that shakes us physically and/or emotionally, will lead to setting up defense mechanisms and to move through life with reserve, causing pain and loss of freedom. Anxiety, depression, loss of motivation, avoidance, lowered social skills, somatic ailments and many other blockages can result from this.

In verbal oriented therapies, the person tries to make sense, understand and cognitively accept (sometimes analyze their behaviour) in regards to an experience that left a strong imprint. Whether the event was an unexpected shock, a loss or a trauma, it was experienced by the body as a whole (physically and emotionnally) and not just on the mind level.

Without re-traumatizing, Lifespan Integration™ will use the mind-body system as a whole, gently stimulating the left and right brain connections to align all levels of the experience and allow them to be processed. In visualizing a time line of life memories, the the neural system “re-sets” itself so that it is more in line with the current life situation.

In bypassing the mind story, the patient can reach deeper and fuller healing as the event is integrated on all levels: mind, body and emotions.

Who is it for?

Originally developped for adult survivors of child abuse and neglect, LI has been proven to be efficient for many traumas, anxiety and psychosomatic ailments, but also attachement disorders, troubled relational dynamics, emotion and impulse control issues. It is readily applicable with children, adults and families.

What to expect?

After completing the LI therapy, people find themselves spontaneously responding to current stressors more appropriately. They are eventually able to connect the fragments of their lives into a coherent whole. They report that they feel better about life, are more self-accepting, and are better able to enjoy their intimate relationships. This allows for new options in the person’s life, based on self-acceptance, curiosity, creativity  and being able to reach out to others.
